The Automatic Pistol is a short story by Fritz Leiber that first appeared in the May 1940 issue of Weird Tales. It features a pistol that relentlessly pursues the person who murdered its former owner. The story was later included in Leiber's 1947 collection of horror stories, Night's Black Agents.

Smoke Ghost appeared in the October 1941 issue of Unknown Worlds and tells the story of advertising executive Catesby Wran. And she had tittered nervously and replied, "When I was a girl there was a thing in white that used out of the closet in the attic bedroom when you slept there, and moan. Of course it was just my imagination. I was frightened of lots of things." And he just said, "I don't mean that traditional kind of ghost. I mean a ghost from the world of today, with the soot of the factories in its face and the pounding of machinery in its soul. The kind that would haunt coal yards and slip around at night through deserted office buildings like this one. A real ghost. Not something out of books."

The story revolves around a character named Ken, who, while dealing with themes of grief and loss, dreams of a woman named Lou. Like a siren's call, the dead have ways of alleviating their loneliness.
The Drifting Snow is a short story by August Derleth published in 1939 (sometimes under the pseudonym Stephen Grendon), originally published in Weird Tales. It is a chilling, unique horror tale featuring "snow vampires" in Wisconsin that blend into winter storms to lure victims. The story focuses on atmospheric dread and the danger of isolation 
Even the best families have skeletons in their collective closet, and sometimes it's much worse than skeletons.
Excerpt: "I had decided to spend a leisurely summer in Europe, concentrating, if at all, on genealogical research. I went first to Ireland, journeying to Kilkenny, where I unearthed a mine of legend and authentic lore concerning my remote Irish ancestors, the O’Braonains, chiefs of the Ui Duach in the ancient kingdom of Ossory. The Brennans (as the name was later spelled) lost their estates in the British confiscation under Thomas Wentworth, Earl of Stafford. The thieving Earl, I am happy to report, was subsequently beheaded in the Tower."

Gabriel-Ernest is a 1909 short story by British writer H. H. Munro, better known by his pen name Saki. The story centers on Van Cheele, a country gentleman, who discovers a wild, feral boy—later named Gabriel-Ernest—living in his woodland property. The boy claims to hunt at night, feeding on animals and, disturbingly, children.

Revelations in Black by Carl Jacobi is a short story first published n 1933. Excerpt: "It was a dreary, forlorn establishment way down on Harbor Street. An old sign announced the legend: Giovanni Larla—Antiques, and a dingy window revealed a display half masked in dust. Even as I crossed the threshold that cheerless September afternoon, driven from the sidewalk by a gust of rain and perhaps a fascination for all antiques, the gloominess fell upon me like a material pall. Inside was half darkness, piled boxes and a monstrous tapestry, frayed with the warp showing in worn places. An Italian Renaissance wine-cabinet shrank despondently in its corner and seemed to frown at me as I passed." 
Even among supernatural beings, there's a pecking order.
Dayblood is a science fiction/vampire short story by Roger Zelazny that offers a unique twist on the vampire genre. It is narrated by a "vampire-vampire" (a vampire who feeds on other vampires) named Werdeth, who poses as a man named Wayne to protect his "charges"—a pair of vampires—from human hunters. The story is known for its suspenseful, first-person narrative and a shocking twist ending.

Drink My Blood by Richard Matheson was first published in 1952. It tells the story of Jules who is obsessed with one things: becoming a vampire.
